My goal by this Spring is be close to a zero waste home. What exactly does that mean?
It means that everything has another purpose rather than being put into the trash. How do I plan to do this? Well here's my plan:
Food waste will be used for compost for our gardens
Paperless bills. Most of my bills are already this way.
Packaging which I am trying to cut down on will be recycled or repurposed.
How else can you reduce waste?
Reusable bags
Reusable water bottles
Switch to paperless bills and cut down on magazines etc
Recycle anything that you can't reuse
I have really been working to try and re use a lot of the things that we have laying around here. I am clearing out a lot of the junk and things we just dont need to simplify our lives. I cleaned out our basement and hung clothes lines so that I can conserve energy and my electric bill :) I always hang everything but my sheets and towels to dry outside in the summer, but now I can hang things to dry inside during the winter :) Its been working well so far.
I try not to buy an plastic containers if I can help it, and for things like sparkling water that I have been buying a lot of lately, I buy ones in glass bottles that I can re use or recycle.
